Our Ultimate Speak Summer Bundle for Rising Grades 5–8 is a 3-week immersive experience that builds confident speakers, thoughtful communicators, and strong collaborators — skills essential for middle school and beyond.

Students practice public speaking daily, learning to speak confidently on the spot, in writing, individually, and as part of a team.

Public Speaking Foundations
📅 July 27–31, 2026
This foundational week introduces students to the many forms of public speaking while building confidence in both prepared and impromptu speaking.
Students learn and practice:
Different forms of public speaking, including:
Persuasive
Storytelling
Informative
Entertaining
and more
How to adapt speaking style based on purpose and audience
Prepared speaking, including writing and organizing short speeches
On-the-spot speaking, thinking quickly and clearly
Strong openings, clear structure, and confident closings
Managing nervousness and developing speaker presence
Giving and receiving constructive feedback

🟣 Week 2: TED Talks Lab
Ideas • Story • Voice
📅 August 3–7, 2026

This week focuses on developing and delivering powerful ideas, inspired by the TED-style format.

Students will:
Develop an idea they care about and want to share
Structure a compelling talk with a clear message
Use storytelling to engage an audience
Refine delivery, pacing, and presence through coaching and feedback

🎤 TED Talks Showcase
Students deliver their talks before a panel of key community members, including educators, business owners, speakers, and other professionals.

🔵 Week 3: Communicate & Collaborate Capstone
Team Communication • Collaboration • Presentation
📅 August 10–14, 2026

The final week focuses on communication and collaboration as part of a team or partnership — key elements of FCPS’s Portrait of a Graduate.
Students work daily in rotating teams on creative speaking challenges using multiple public speaking formats, including:

Persuasive speaking & pitching
Storytelling
Informative speaking
Students learn how to:
Collaborate effectively so every student contributes
Communicate with new peers and find common ground
Lead, listen, and build on others’ ideas
Master team presentation dynamics, including smooth transitions and unified delivery

Teams present a final collaborative presentation!
